Bridle Path

It's pretty cold this winter. I have a tendency to stay close to the fire and get a bit slag. Don't know if I spelled slag right but that's what they say here when you are getting a bit lazy and slow like a slug. Anyway my American friend saved me from it. She had the excellent idea to walk the Bridle path The bridle path is a historic track. It was made in 1851 for the settlers who arrived at Lyttelton harbour in "the first four ships" To go to Christchurch they had to climb up the Port Hills with all their belongings. On the left corner of the collage is a wall painting showing these colonists. The track is pretty steep and I had to huf and puf but couldn't blow the hill down, I mean huf and puf even without carrying my belongings. These days there is a tunnel from Lyttelton to Christchurch but we wanted to follow the footsteps of the early settlers. (hum yeh right)
It was drizzling all the time but the drops blended nicely in with the ones we produced and cooled us down a bit. We started at Heathcote valley, had a short rest in the shelter on the top and went down to Lyttelton. There we had a gorgeous lunch in Lyttelton cafe and walked the same way back again. That felt really good, in the end that is.

  6. This is something I would like to be able to do sometime, but I am not at all fit so would not make it I don't think, which is a pity, I would like the feel of history following the old settlers footsteps. good on you for doing so and in winter too.

  7. That Birdie path sounds good. I laughed at your description of a slug....I have many of them in the garden and I despise them, they are like lawnmover when they eat up all the seedlings..but slug is a good way to describe laziness..they can't walk faster to get away from me :P

  9. I think you may have meant 'slack' :)

(Have been surfing your blog for half an hour and really enjoying it, as an Aussie just arrived in Amsterdam and doing exactly what you've done but in reverse. I've found reading about your efforts and journey strangely encouraging -- thank you!)
