A reason, a season or lifetime

A Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON . . . It is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are!
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die, sometimes they walk away,
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realise is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON . . .
Because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person,
and put what you have learned to use in all  other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

  1. I love this way of thinking about things Marja, but I'm not so sure that I can be so reasoned.

To my way of thinking there are also times when things just happen, when people move in and out of our life, sometimes quite dramatically and not necessarily out of any need or desire of our own.

Sometimes we can be thrown upon one another for no reason, other than chance.

I suppose, it's what we do with one another thereafter that alters the balance and makes what might otherwise be a casual and largely empty relationship into a meaningful one.

Thanks for this Marja. You certainly set me thinking.

  9. This is so true and it really translates well to the blog world, doesn't it? Only a handful of blogs are those that you keep coming back to over time. Rather like yours.

  10. I guess we all need to remember this as people come and go throughout our lives. Sometimes it is hard to 'lose' someone you trusted or thought was your friend.

  13. Hi Marja

This is a lovely post you have shared. Words of wisdom with much food for thought. Yes, indeed people come into our lives for a purpose and when we accept such friendship that too is purpose driven. As the saying goes, no man or woman is an island.

  14. I agree with you, people come into your life for a reason. Everything in life has a purpose and if you think a little bit further you can relate this to the meaning of life.

    Beautiful posting.

  17. I have always loved this thoughtful piece.... though I have to say there are people who have come into my life for a season and have moved on and I miss them so much. I had hoped they were lifetime kindreds.

thanks for this post Marja. It was good to contemplate again the meaningful people who have come and gone in my life.......AND to recognize the ones who are here with me for the long haul.

  22. I have read this before and liked it then too, makes you think a little.
Glad your busy doing something you enjoy, that is very important.
Your relatives poem sounds very 'Vietnam' to me. I am not into wars much or even at all.

  23. THere is a lot of truth in this. Here is another saying I like: 'A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet'.
