Mural Monday by Sami
This is quite a recent mural. It's called Dcypher goes Cosmic. This impressive mural is a combination of fantasy and science fiction. It has amazing and beautiful detail. The mural is on Colombo Street in the city center of Christchurch.
The mural is in front of AO Tawhiti. This is a special character school. My children went there.
Not in this building as this was built after the earthquake.

This building contains a primary and secondary school. Children are at the center of learning and follow their own pathway. They are mentored by a learning assistant. They plan and choose what they want to learn. If it is not available at the school, they will find it somewhere else. For example my daughter wanted to learn Dutch. A mother at this school started Dutch lessons with a few children. I assisted her later on and we had a Dutch day where people could play games and ate oliebollen, we celebrated St Nicolas together with the German community at school and had lots of fun.
My daughter wanted to try out how it was to be a landscape architect and she worked alongside one and learned how to design a garden. She also did a chemistry paper at Uni to find out more about that.
Everyone is a learner and a teacher at school so all assist each other.

Although it is not for everyone I absolutely loved it.
Beautiful mural and a very interesting school-concept! When I think of all the nonsense I learned at school and never needed...
ReplyDeleteWat een indrukwekkende mural. Maar ik vind het verhaal over de school van je dochter nog veel interessanter. Ik ben zelf m'n hele werkzame leven juf geweest, vandaar
ReplyDeleteThat mural looks like a stunner
ReplyDeleteIntriguing mural!
ReplyDeleteYou have some very talented artists in Christchurch. This is a beautiful mural Marja. What a great concept having a learning centre like the one you described. The education system in Australia is so antiquated. Finland on the other hand is perennially one of the top performers in Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) surveys and is considered to have to the best education system globally.
ReplyDeleteAll the best my friend, Peggy xxx
Beautiful mural. Interesting teaching method, and I think the the youngsters participating in learning hands on they will feel more involved and keener to learn. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Marja.
ReplyDelete...I like Dcypher goes Cosmic. That sound like a GREAT school, more school should be like this.
ReplyDeleteLovely mural!
ReplyDeleteI like the sci-fi aspect of this mural. Th colors are stunning, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing concept for a school. Teachers and learners at the same time.

Teaching would never work for me. I have zero ability to communicate ideas and principles to other people effectively.
Fantastic mural!
Hi Marja - Fabulous mural - while the idea of the school definitely appeals - so interesting to know about - cheers Hilary
