The Guest House

I love this poem I came along

Guest house in NZ

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

  1. I particularly resonate to these lines Marja:

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
    and invite them in.

    Thankyou

  2. Good morning Marja. Lovely guest house. I would move in and never leave. Oops. Not. That would make me the guest of hades but you get my point. Rumi's poem is to the point. I never knew who would be visiting me in the morning when I awoke to get ready for work. Now - each today is an exciting expectation of surprise and pleasure.

  3. Great lines isn't elisabeth We are here to learn and with comes lots of not so nice stuff but we can see that as a way to help us move forwards

Hi Annie a nice cottage to retreat to
indeed Oh and I am sure you would be a delightful guest.
I know the pleasure of awaking to all different days because I was a mum at home for a long time and therefore I had time to do interesting things. Hope you enjoy lots of lovely days
