Alfheim

Alfheim
One of the nine worlds—
a realm of scintillating beings
dressed in moonlight hues:
pale grey and milky-way white.

Pointed ears catch whispers of wind,
sending secrets through rustling leaves.
Mystical light dances
between diamond-shaped shadows.

Tree trunks tower
above petal-roofed cottages,
where white-faced elves,
crowned with wreaths of roses,
scatter gold dust and dew,
threads of silver spider-silk—
welcoming dragonflies and fairies.

They feast on amber honey,
purple elderberry wine,
and nut shells filled
with forest fare,
celebrating the celestial stillness
of a serene summer
in mythical realms.

  2. Wondrously descriptive, Marja! From my perspective … all this wonder thrives on planet Earth for humans, too, living alongside the elves in magical places without seeming to notice because it is so common.

  7. Marja, that sounds like the most delightful of settings. I bet Alfheim is home to wondrous fairy tales. I wonder how many of their secrets the leaves would be willing to share.

  8. I'm partial to elves and fairies, Marja, and I enjoyed the magic in your poem, especially in the lines:
    'dragonflies and fairies
    feasting on amber honey
    and purple elderberry wine,
and nut shells full of forest food'.

  9. I feel like this place could be just around the next corner or any forest walk. Something glimpsed just out of the corner of one's eye.

  10. The feast sounds lovely, but I'll bet there's a risk to anyone outside their abode should they dare to sneak a taste.
