sculpture by Allan O'Loughlin
Recovering my balance
Thoughts torture me terribly
Should I have swallowed my words
or did I leave things unsaid
Did I care too much or not enough
I reach beyond the sky and
curl around the crust of the moon
to be carried and cradled by the night
striving to recover my balance
When I spin out of control
I let go and flow in a breeze
I listen to the aroha within
land gently on my feet
Without falling there is no need to rise
Without pain, happiness is
like beauty without an admirer
It can’t be seen nor can it be felt
Walk your path through the delicate dust
and when you are in the shadow,
know it's caused by light and you might
discover how to walk to the other side

Very moving words, Marja, and particularly profound when you wrote: “Without pain, happiness is like beauty without an admirer …”
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Maria
DeleteEquilibrium is a gift given both to body and soul.
ReplyDeleteThe gorgeous steel sculpture displayed in the garden, stands, I think, for the equilibrium in Nature.
Nature's elements:sky, moon, sun, breeze - all mentioned in your poem - are all kept in control and equilibrium by the Creator (God, the Universe).
I agree it is a miracle how everything is in balance (without men's interference)
DeleteGiven the current condition of the United States, this poem actually gave me a little hope!
ReplyDeleteInteresting reflections on equilibrium!
ReplyDeleteHi Marja - so much to equilibrium ... I wouldn't go back - as I wouldn't be here now. Love the sculptures - that garden must be amazing to walk around ... while seeing his other art works are really inspiring ... thanks for sharing his work. All the best - Hilary
ReplyDeletelovely poem, Marja.
ReplyDeleteif i ever get angry, i will try to remember your 3rd stanza.
"When I spin out of control
I let go and flow in a breeze..."
Well the spinning does polish the gemstones.
ReplyDeleteooooo...curling around the crust of the moon is a beautiful image.
ReplyDeleteThere is wisdom in your words. Were it not for dark we wouldn't appreciate light. Well penned!
ReplyDeleteI love the sculpture ... love each line of this beautifully composed poem.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful, Marja. I particularly love the penultimate and closing stanzas, what the former says about humans as social animals, and what the latter tells us about balance and perspective. Just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSome of the best things in my life came right after chaos.
ReplyDeleteA lovely sculpture and its equilibrium echoes through your poem of yin and yang aspects of a complete set of coexisting experiences in life
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
Happy New Year

Yes truth is beauty...happiness needs no admirers.
ReplyDeletePlenty to ponder in your thought-provoking poem Marja. Without fallings there is no need to rise. How true.
ReplyDelete"like beauty without an admirer" -- what a wonderful comparison! :D
ReplyDeleteAnother gem my friend and a what a great sculpture.
ReplyDeleteYour words speak volumes. We all need equilibrium.
