I wrote this poem in the visitor book in the Bach we stayed at Fox river on the West Coast of the South island of NZ a few weeks ago, although it is slightly edited
I share it here with Poets and storytellers United
Wildness
We
inhale the wildness
Washing the hustle
and bustle from our mind
The daily this and that
do not matter
The ocean doesn't care
We are entranced
by it's vibrant voice
calling us with a roar
waves unfolding
a fuming fading tapestry
welcoming us
teaching us to retreat
Telling us tales of far-off
poetic places
What
matters is the silver
sand born from the sea
rugged rocks towering above
sea singing its lullaby,
birds, elegant white lines
on bright blue canvas
piercing cries of freedom
On the mystic altar of stone
we offer our grace
as we have come home
as we have received
a gift of peace
Imprints of seagulls,sea,sand
synchronise with our soul.

We stayed in this bach for a few nights. There is no electricity except for lights connected to a battery. No cellphone reception either. But it was a little paradise straight on the beach.

I love the music in your words and the beautiful visuals in them too – and then to be treated to actual images so vibrant and beautiful is an extra treat.
ReplyDeleteI saw your poem on Facebook first, Marja, and enjoyed it very much, and now I’m reading it again with the gorgeous photographs! I love the idea of inhaling wildness to wash away the hustle and bustle, and the description of the sea:
ReplyDelete‘We are entranced
by its vibrant voice
calling us with a roar
waves unfolding
a fuming fading tapestry’.
This really puts it all in perspective and silences some of our endless worry and chatter. The ocean has such a voice and we are directed into simple and pure presence in its presence!
ReplyDeleteI could hear/see/feel this as I read, which is exactly what outstanding poetry is supposed to do for us. "Imprints synchronizing with the soul" indeed. And the photography is out standing. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteA trip to a sunny beach sounds heavenly right now. Thank you for your beautiful words which took me along for the ride.
ReplyDelete" A gift of Peace" sums up your entire poem. And it's not contrasting against the word "wilderness" at the beginning of your poem, which is what makes Peace available after all.
ReplyDeleteThey should use your poem in their brochures. Goodness knows that after reading your words, feeling the emotions set in ink, I really want to go there. And the images are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely poem and pictures. What a wonderful immersion into raw nature. You must have had a wonderful time and returned somewhat "cleansed" of worry and negativity.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece of writing! I really need a day at the beach.
ReplyDeleteAn exquisite poem ~~ a million thanks for including the photography. Like being there albeit in my dreams! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteSand, stones, and seagulls...yes, they all matter to the soul.
ReplyDeleteFrom your lush looking pictures I am thinking that you inhaled a lot of good beach and foliage things. It seemed rather deserted, we try for those, there is on on the Gulf of Mexico about 60 miles due south of our home. I looked up Truman Track on computer map, it looks like a nice drive from Christchurch. We did not go along the west coast, but all along the eastern and south coasts and then over to Tasmania.

Hi Marja - love the poem ... we need to just be - enjoying what we find, or in your case - this spectacularly beautiful idyll of a place ... your words express your thoughts so well - and give us a glimpse of life away from the thither and hither of normality. Wonderful - thank you ... Hilary
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words and delightful pictures. It sounds like heaven - a few days without phones and social media! Thanks for sharimg Marja.
ReplyDeleteLovely, evocative beach poem...and lovely beach!
ReplyDeleteGreat peaceful poem, even with the gulls!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely poem and picture. It's always good to retreat into the wilds for a few nights (or months).

Paradise on Earth! "The daily this and that” referred to in your eloquent prose, truly does not matter in such a place.
ReplyDeleteHey friend I loved reading your poem then looking at your gorgeous photographs then reading your poem again.
ReplyDeletePure magic!

Wow NZ is such a beautiful country. You had a good spot to stay but a bit rustic. The poem is great too. Fabulous photos.
