Rosemary from Poets and Storytellers United invited us to write on being bound and/or breaking free
Break Free
Break free from the superficial
Dive deep into life
Be aware, absorb, adore
Always strive for more
joy love, and peace
Did you learn to react instead of act?
To control instead of respect?
This rhythm of imperfections
can be mended into a melody
harmonising heart and mind
Break free from the chains of society
Plant thoughts to grow in the light
of your original insight
Disbelieve those who say you’re weak
You are as strong as the force of a storm
Breaking free means removing
the bars from our mind.
opening the windows wide
Let the wind blow
away your fears,
Until colours fill the shadows

I love the thought of mending imperfections into a melody...!
ReplyDeleteSome lovely metaphors and images here, as well as wisdom.
ReplyDeleteI love your suggestions for breaking free - Jae
ReplyDeleteYes "open the window" and let freedom reign. This works really well.
ReplyDeleteThe wise words in this piece encapsulate the path to freedom, sharing insight into how we easily can get lost and take a wrong turn: "Did you learn to react instead of act? To control instead of respect?"
ReplyDeleteLovely thoughts!

So true! Breaking free from the chains of society will result in 'harmonizing heart and mind".
ReplyDelete...I've always tried to be a free thinker!
ReplyDeleteYour poem is a powerful stream of consciousness and a wonderful message for ALL of us!
ReplyDeleteLovely imagery and good advice in your poem.
ReplyDeleteSadly, breaking free is almost impossible give the expectations we often set for ourselves as well as believing in the delusions and lies people here in the States refuse to examine.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm posting again semi-regularly. And I'm doing well but still on the heart transplant list.
Strong 2nd and 4th stanzas
ReplyDeleteDear Marja,
ReplyDeleteyou find wise words on every topic. I think it is not easy for many people to free themselves - to become independent of social rules or to act instead of reacting. (Some don't even react, they just endure...) Those who (like us) have already recognized some of their own power find it easier...
Oh, I would love to dance now with you to the Queen song "I want to break free" 😊
All the best, Traude

Beautiful words, Marja!
You are so clever with words and not even in your mother tongue.
