written to the prompt I am not a lady I am a woman for my local poetry group
I am not a lady, I am a woman
I might wear linen,
drape in lace,
but I am not a lady.
I am a force.
Jeans on, hands full, heart wide,
I run families,
I balance worlds:
physically, emotionally, financially.
I am a force.
Leader. Scientist. Nurse. Teacher.
I shape the world,
sign my life alongside men and women.
I am a force.
I speak truth.
I build, I break, I rise, I run.
I ride life’s wave
fearless and free.
I am a woman.

Dear Marja, this is a fantastic poem! Congratulations on a heartfelt, honest writing!
ReplyDeleteYes!! I love being a woman.
ReplyDeleteFabulous love it!
ReplyDeleteMore power to you Marja! :)
ReplyDeleteWomen are a force, indeed, especially in their own families and communities. But not enough of them run the world. In some places they have no rights at all.
ReplyDeletePrachtig! Strong woman. May we be them, may we raise them.
ReplyDelete...women have always had superpowers in my life.
ReplyDeleteLovey verse - and so true. Sadly there are still far too many regions of the Earth where women are denied the pathway to their full potential. Afghanistan especially comes to mind. Barbarism at its very worst.
ReplyDeleteWow, what an incredibly powerful and resonant poem, a beautiful declaration of strength and capability. That line, "I run families, I balance worlds," really captures the sheer magnitude of what a woman handles every day. "I ride life's wave, fearless and free," is such a perfect closing image. Thank you for sharing your wonderful contribution.
