The prompt for Poets and storytellers united is Inappropriate laughter. This brought up some memories.
Dominoes
of laughter
A dull day
math class
my friend whispers a word,
tiny, electric
I look at her,
a giggle
she looks at me
a spark jumps.
Then
we crack open,
folding in half,
sucked up
into a rolling storm
of laughter.
Faces
look up,
chairs creak.
The teacher’s mouth twitches
as it spreads like a virus.
dominoes
falling,
four, eight, sixteen
until the whole room
is wheezing,
roaring with laughter,
rippling through
the building.
The
teacher grabs
his life jacket
to stay afloat
“You two.
Principal. Now.”
after,
we walk the streets
delivering the school’s post.
still carrying
small sparks
in our pockets.
Adorei a imagem e a poesia perfeita, Marja!

No doubt an experience most of us can relate to. I am sure I have laughed inappropriately more than once.
ReplyDeleteThose were the days (we thought they'd never end)
ReplyDeleteI love this infectious giggling spark - a special moment to treasure indeed! Jae
ReplyDeleteThis is so delightfully described, it's a joy to read. It's as if I was participating with you and your friend.
ReplyDeleteThe laughter you describe is contagious for the person lucky enough to read this great poem.!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the pace of the poem, maybe because most of us has been part of a scene like this.
ReplyDeleteI love this poem, Marja.
ReplyDelete...laughter is beat when it's genuine!
ReplyDeleteSay it again, hardly none got involved, giggles, snickers -- then there was bubble gum and shoe scuffings, lots of other. I had to come back and indulge and reading again.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marja for bringing back the memories of teenage years! Doses of them made us miss the friends we had. It was all in good fun! Enjoyed your write Ma'am!

This poem reminded me of a time at a funeral when my friend whispered something so absurd that we both started shaking with laughter. We tried desperately to stifle it, but the harder we fought, the worse it got. Soon we were getting stares from everyone around us, and we were absolutely mortified. You captured that unstoppable, contagious spark of laughter perfectly.
ReplyDeleteDizem que o riso e contagioso e é verdade.
ReplyDeleteAbraço de amizade.

It's wonderful when laughter becomes contagious to the point where your stomach hurts.
