Christchurch in 1952

As I have to divert my attention to other matters at the moment, I leave you with a promotional video about Christchurch from 1952. I noticed that 60 years ago Christchurch had pretty much the same laid back atmosphere and people engage in the same activities as today. You don't see much bikes on the road anymore though and obviously the buildings are changing rapidly. Enjoy.

  1. Hi Marja .. I want 1/3 of it .. but was wondering if the wooden church of St Andrew was still there, and now is it still standing?

Great archive to have .. and be able to see - lots of healthy bicyclists! and old fashioned traffic movement - the walking, talking, white gloved policeman ... Cheers Hilary

  2. Hi Marja .. I also meant to ask - did the glass fronted art gallery stand up to the earthquake, or has the one in Wiki been rebuilt or is it new?

    Cheers Hilary

  4. It is lovely to turn back time and view Christchurch 60 years ago.
One of the things I especially love when I visit your city Marja is the cycling. I always hire a bike and feel very safe on the roads.....not like Sydney!!!
