We went to Wellington on my daughters birthday. We spend a great time together. Me, my husband, my daughter and her boy friend went to an Italien restaurant eating antipasto and lasagna. Walking through the city we enjoyed the endless shops and restaurants in lively Wellington. A sharp contrast to the Christchurch city center.
Wellington or Wellywood in the South of the North Island starred in the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. It is the city where Te papa is and "The world of wearable arts" which was on this weekend. So much to see and to do in the capital of NZ .
On Saturday morning William and I had a walk along the wharf and visited a museum.
Jump Love letters to Wellington in the
museum of Wellington City and sea
We listened to the Maori legend "how Maui brought fire to the world" told and played
by some holograms which was really cool
We walked further and on this spot next to the fountain, we had the best gelato ever
In the afternoon we went for a walk on the beach at Island Bay
....................with the high lights of our trip Two wonderful beautiful young people
Afterwards I had a coffee with my daughter. Then the two of us went to the
city gallery to experience "the refusal of time". In a dark room chairs were chattered
all over the place and the above was shown on screens all around us and there was
a great variety of sounds. An amazing experience of the elusive nature of time
a great variety of sounds. An amazing experience of the elusive nature of time
So what did we think of the middle of Middle earth.............precious
Hi Marja - this looks amazing - I've always liked the sound of Wellington, but also the other cities .. though can see the benefits of all - that's great your daughter is happy and enjoying life with her boyfriend .. Happy Birthday to her .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteEvery city has its strength but the city center of wellington is fantastic
DeleteLooks like you guys had a great trip, and I am loving that shot of the fountain. Is there any way you could send the big umbrella over here? Seems like we'll be having lots of rain next week.
ReplyDeletelol sure It doesn't get used anyway Hopefully you won't need it after all
DeleteA very nice trip, I like the pictures of the shore and the light house. The last experience must have been very exciting!
ReplyDeleteyeh it was really cool
DeleteHappy birthday to your daughter! Precious is the perfect word to end a post that covers time and space, and our place in it, from one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Although we try to measure it through science, the perplexing nature of time is perhaps best explored through art.
ReplyDeleteyeh time is an perplexing concept when you think about it It was well expressed It felt as people tried to capture it but went off mark
DeleteGlad to hear you had a wonderful time.
ReplyDeletethanks
DeleteAwesome pictures! The family and I drove up to Clemson University to see our son, no pictures though. Traffic was terrible and parking was a nightmare so we had to leave campus.
ReplyDeletesorry to hear that beach
DeleteWas a brace of coneys offered on the menu?
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it Jerry
DeleteA brace of coneys is a pair of rabbits in The Lord of the Rings, my dear Marja. Smeagol threw one of his hissy-fits when Frodo and Samwise wanted them cooked instead of eaten raw in the second part (I think) of the triology.
Deleteoh ok lol Don't tell anybody but I am not that big a fan
DeleteIt looks like you had a wonderful time in wellington with your family. The gallery looks fun.

ReplyDeleteHi Marja, your photos are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Marja, Thank you for sharing your photos of Wellington. They are wonderful and as always I take a journey with you albeit absent from the photo. Hope you and your family are doing well and that Christchurch is looking a bit more like it should these days. I appreciate that you still pop in now and then. I have had much going on the last couple of years but hopefully will be able to write more this Winter. Take care.
