Finding Sanctuary

Prompt "finding sanctuary" for Poets United

When I bump into too much misery in this place called life, I need to retreat to regain my energy. I am blessed to live in paradise where there are lots of sacred places where I feel safe, relaxed, where I take in beauty, energy, where I feel at home. The place on the photo underneath is one of them and is only 15 minutes drive away from where I live. I walk through the bush to the top and have been accompanied a few times in the past by a sweet little fantail. A wonderful companion in this sanctuary of nature.

A divine symphony seen from the Sign of the Kiwi

Finding sanctuary

When I feel small and
weak in the eyes of
this giant of misery
I find sanctuary
in the natural world

I wander
A fantail whispers
“follow me” as I hide deeper
into the enchanted forest
I feel the soft breath
of the wind, gently
blowing the branches
so the light can
dance on my path.
I tune in, as the Bell birds
burst into a cheerful chorus
My spirit of
wildness grows as
I wander

I wander
to the top of the hill
and gaze in awe as
a divine composer
constructed a symphony
of coloured shapes and shades
playing right in front of me
tones of silky blue
an inflection of green
an adagio of glowing hills
a melody so soothing
so serene, I sight
I am home,
harmony heals
so when I am weak
I wander

  13. Reminds me of a trip to the beach I took far too long ago. The shore was almost entirely deserted and with the wind blowing I couldn't hear a single human-made noise. Wanted to stay there for much longer and recharge my soul, but circumstance forced me to rejoin civilization.

  18. The truth is Nature is beautiful and soothing everywhere on the planet. We just have to find the right "top of the hill", "enchanted forest" with singingin birds, and we'll find our healing.

  19. It’s as if you wrote Finding Sanctuary for me, Marja. I, too, find solace in wandering and in nature, although nature can quickly change from welcoming to dangerous. Yesterday I saw a sparrow bathe, drink and play in a tiny trickle of water from a hose I placed by a tree. It was a calming series of moments that made my heart sing. It’s not earth shattering but in quiet times like these I feel the strength of the universe in me.
