Climate change. Do you feel the heat?

Prompt Poets United Climate Change

Do you feel the heat?

Mother earths fever induced
nightmares become reality
As she breathes heavily and
storms into a spiral of destruction
As dragons spew their
flames into the forest
As the sea falls silent
As ice caps drop in despair
their tears taking our land

Our children are playing and
laughing on earths sickbed
Let them play, let them laugh
It is time to unite and stand up
to dismantle this time bomb
By raising our voices
By transforming our lives
By supporting each other in change
By believing we can do this

Do you feel the heat?

Get fueled up with hope and act

A few things you can do
  • Avoid buying products packed in plastic
  • Eat less meat and more vegetables
  • Change light bulbs
  • Recycle and reuse
  • Use cold water on clothes
  • Bike and walk as much as possible
  • Fly less. Go on holiday in your own country
  • Buy green energy
  • Avoid Aerosols
  • Join extinction rebellion
  • Plant trees

The earth needs you, to become healthy again
and you become healthy in the process

  1. "Let them play, let them laugh"...The plea is so tender and full of love. However big corporations and politicos think differently and that is making all the differences. May be they don't feel the heat. Sigh. So well put.

  2. A wonderful post. Love the personification of earth: "she breathes heavily and
storms into a spiral of destruction" and "earths sickbed." It's exactly like that! And I want to let the children play now and into the future.

  4. Yes I love your last lines. We can hope, but primarily we must act.

  5. Marja, I love the poem and especially love the "what you can do" part. I just joined Extinction Rebellion. Thanks for the link. It is good to see you.

  6. It's not only the heat that we're feeling, but the cold and droughts, which are changing weather patterns, as well. Sadly, in Canada, manufactures seem to think that everything needs to wrapped in plastic. Living in Canada's largest city, it's easier and cheaper to take transit to get around, when not walking.

  7. I love it that you call it "climate change" . I call it 'climate anomaly', and not 'climate warming' as the politicians do.
Your poem is full of superb imagery! The earth is definitely on its "sickbed" and needs us to help her in the process of healing. We can certainly do that. Yes, we can. Your list at the end of your post is a wonderful, useful guide that serves this goal.

  10. It’s overwhelming. The clock is ticking and it’s later than we think. As individuals, we can vote for leaders/governments willing to risk the wrath of climate change deniers. As individuals, we can do little earth-friendly things around the home and in our travels that lead to healthier results. We don't want to be caught fiddling while our only home burns.

  12. Extinction Rebellion is slapping the world's face where scientists have been miserably wooing. Fossil fuel consumerism is a much worse opiate than heroin because it pervades EVERYTHING, and kicking its habit is like stepping off a cliff. But all we have to do is to start the reversal -- eat less meat, avoid the packaging, conserve energy -- and the momentum has a chance to gather and take hold. Long hard march though. So much easier to fade into suburban gluttony.

  13. Sadly it is not us that disbelieve in Climate change it is those that are making the situation worse by excessive deforestation, permitting so much waste contaminate the oceans and riverways and by continued unbalancing of our flora and fauna, particularly insects such as bees, and animals such as polar bears, wolves and whales to name but a few. Humanity have no idea how to save this planet while they are now so greedy.
