A friend of mine
I introduce you to a friend
she makes me travel widely
inside the space of my mind
where I count the clouds
where cloudy thoughts clear
where clear streams flow
where a flow of words dance
Some people don’t like her
fear she infects them with loneliness
fear she infects them with loneliness
but she keeps out the crowd
and the noise and the voice
of the world of sadness and
madness and bursts of busyness
I love her peaceful presence as
I’ll snuggle up, with coffee and my cat
a book and a pen and some paper
after I wander through the forest
smell the earth, soak in the air
oh yes we two are quite a pair
Now I think about it
to mend my mood
to mend my mood
I have to see her more often
My silent friend named Solitude
Great poem, Marja!
ReplyDeleteContrary to belief, solitude is a positive, constructive stage. It's being alone without being lonely, and it helps organizing thoughts and taking proper decisions.
It goes well with today's trend of mindfulness and awareness.
"oh yes we two are quite a pair".
Thanks yes and I totally agree with you. It is quite healing
DeleteYour writing is so visual Marja, it is a joy to read!
ReplyDeleteI think solitude is creativity's best friend and it also sharpens awareness of small pleasures.
I concur with Duta with that delightful line "oh yes we two are quite a pair".
Keep shining dear friend.

Thanks Peggy Yes if I am busy and on the run (like most of the time lol) than I am often not able to write. I have to write on Sunday morning when snuggling up on the couch
DeleteA visit with solitude is always worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteHi Marja - you certainly have a wonderful way with words ... taking us on a journey of life - it's lovely to read ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs a friends called solitude.
ReplyDeleteI love that silent friend, too, for all the same reasons. Loved this.
ReplyDeleteIt's often, during these solitude times, I am able to tap into a part of myself, that speaks wisdom and soul healing. That the modern world drowns out, in an ocean of noise. Only wish, more people would take the time, to do so.
ReplyDeleteYes solitude is my friend too. I love her dearly and I love how you depict her.
ReplyDeleteBetter a commune with nature than eyes glued to the phone...something you see at the beach all the time now.
ReplyDeleteLike the counting of clouds in the mind....
ReplyDeleteA beautiful friendship. Luv your poem Marja
ReplyDeleteHappy you dropped by my blog

I love your poem, Marja. This is how I feel, when I'm in the depths of wilderness and one with nature. Beautiful write!
ReplyDeleteSolitude is so good to unwind from all your concerns and realize how good life can be.
ReplyDeleteYour friend is my friend, too. I love that she is so wonderful at being silent while saying everything, that she is so good at allowing us to listen to our own thoughts, at inviting us to see the world without the noise of everyone else's living. She is the best! and you illustrate her best characteristics so well in your poem.
