A taste of kindness

Prompt for Poets United : Kindness

A taste of kindness

Taste kindness carefully, it is bitter than sweet.
It is pungent and sharp but only for a moment,
a moment long enough to remember the days
you were lost in the gloomy forest of life

You brought back a gift from this time
when you found your way out of the forest,
when you conquered your fear and calmness laid
itself down as a soft blanket on your tired body.

And now you soften a hardened soul with kindness,
so sweet, its seed will one day be a flower breaking
free from a little crack, free from the fear nestled
in the dark corners of their eyes. Its seed will spread.

Spread freely with the potential to produce a pallet
of lavender, rose and blue hues, covering the earth
It will travel through a smile, it will hover over men's
heart when you give a helping hand, a listening ear

It lifts a soul to new views above stormy clouds
It allows humans to step outside their shadow
It’s like a serenade of scarlet in sunrise
splendour, after a wandering through the night

and you, yes, you
are the one who has this impact
to  shape a new scenery
slowly and softly

  1. WOW Marja a very powerful poem my friend!
"And now you soften a hardened soul with kindness,
so sweet, its seed will one day be a flower breaking
free from a little crack, free from the fear nestled
in the dark corners of their eyes. Its seed will spread."

I was once "lost in the gloomy forest of life" but managed with the help of kindness from a number of people to find the light again, and then share that light by paying it forward.

Your poetry is such a joy to read dear friend.

  4. I love this! Especially "calmness laid itself down as a soft blanket on your tired body." How I long to see that pallete of healing colours spreading over the earth! Kindness can reach the hardest heart. May we each be part of shaping this new scenery that humankind longs for.

  5. Hi Marja - I couldn't agree more with Peggy's comment ... you can bring out areas of thought most of us would not allow to invade our minds ... quite wonderful - thank you ... cheers Hilary

  6. It's beautiful how you portray this spellbinding magic of kindness. This taste of kindness may be pungent to begin with but it can surely be very rewarding in the long run.
I loved this bit particularly: "It’s like a serenade of scarlet in sunrise/splendour, after a wandering through the night".

  9. I like your expression "forest of life". It can be interpreted in many ways.
Your way seems to say, that a forest may help develop kindness for all living things.
