Empowerment

An incredible wave of sorrow and pain has invaded our community in Christchurch after the horrible events on 15/3/19 which will be carved into our minds for a long time.
We feel the grieve as our whanau has been deeply hurt. We feel almost useless and want to do everything to ease that pain of the Muslim community. Giving money, flowers, support. I am proud of New Zealand and it’s caring and strong leader Jacinda Ardern as the opportunity has been taken by all to not be divided by hate but to be united in love. This empowers us to deal with this

Some of the beautiful words of Jacinda
“To the families, we cannot know your grief, but we can walk with you at every stage. We can and we will surround you with aroha, love, manaakitanga, kindness and all that makes us us.
“He asked what offer of support the United States could provide. My message was sympathy and love for all Muslim communities.”
(phone conversation with Donald Trump)

Endless flowers, messages and drawings from
the people of Christchurch as They are us

Prompt Poets United Empowerment
Empowerment is one of my values so I had to write something   I don't have taken the time yet to edit it. That time will come.  Also wanted to be part of this loving community of Poets United. Aroha nui to all

Flick your switch

Dear friend
Some days you will cry
but don’t let the world weigh you down
you have immense strength
Your tears won’t wash out your vision
your vision is carved into your soul
That’s where your sage lives
That’s where your warrior is
A warrior of peace and love
which will overflow into the world,
if you open your heart

You came here with a purpose
listen to the whispers inside
they will tell you who you are
Tell your tale, fill the pages
carve your life out in your image
that’s what you came here to do
Flick your switch, turn
your attention to your power

Enjoy oh yes enjoy.
Be that wildflower
dancing in the wind among
all colours and shapes
in beautiful harmony
Be that wind
Which can’t be hold
by cupped hands
because it is free
thinks independently
Seeks the truth
under boughs of trees
under the canopy
and in the open sky

Most of all Be you
and let others be the
image of their soul
Empower them,
by giving them a voice
give them the chance
to live their story
Admire their strength
Embrace the exotic
Excite in new ideas
Soften into acceptance
Meet people where they are
And the wax of fear will
drip down the candle
till only freedom is left

  1. My favorite line: Meet people where they are. Someone tried to rob your world of its goodwill but instead made love grow stronger. I was heartened by your leader’s response and how the community has gathered round. This has been an earthquake of the soul.

  3. Politicians are not so important in these matters as it is their doings or rather lack of doings that lead to catastrophies of this sort. It is the people on the street, the local community, their reaction to the sad event that matter.

Your poem (especially the last stanza) is full of good advice relevant to all.

  6. Your leader is the finest example of compassionate and effective leadership. I so admire and respect her. We need every sage and warrior of peace and love we can find these days. I love your poem, Marja. I love "Be that wild flower dancing in the wind." And the wax of fear dripping down the candle till only freedom is left. Brilliant.

  8. I like the expressions of love, inclusion and encouragement in this poem, the way it begins with ‘Dear friend’ and words of comfort. I especially like the lines:
‘Tell your tale, fill the pages
carve your life out in your image
that’s what you came here to do’
    and
    ‘Be that wild flower
    dancing in the wind among
    all colours and shapes
    in beautiful harmony’.

  10. Hi Marja - such cruelty ... yet being tempered by your leader - who is leading. Your poem is just brilliant for us to reflect ... but I too loved "Be that wild flower dancing in the wind." And the wax of fear dripping down the candle till only freedom is left." extra words added by Sherry ... Christchurch has a wonderful community - my thoughts to all - Hilary

  11. You must be very proud Marja that Jacinda Ardern was so prompt and caring and sympathetic to your Muslim community immediately following this atrocity. She was a great example to all world leaders.

  13. Such a beautiful tribute and poem dear Marja,it is so sad to witness such a senseless loss and my heart also grieves with those who have lost their loved ones..
Your poem is a powerful reminder that we are indeed ONE. And that it matters not what faith we follow, but where our hearts are held..
And we do indeed embrace them. For are they not US..
We did indeed all come here with a purpose, and that was to learn to LOVE one another.
I think many have picked out my own favourite lines from your poem, of " Be that Wild flower, dancing in the wind.."
    Beautiful sentiments Marja..

Sometimes it takes great sadness to bring about more Unity and Peace between those who feel separate.. And when we look beneath our labels we give each other.. We are but Mothers, Fathers, Sisters and Brothers, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and Friends.. And each one of us is united with the pain of loss..

Love and Blessings dear Marja.. My heart is with you all in Christchurch <3
