Awake from your coma

A recycled poem for Poets and Storytellers United

Wake up

I love to indulge in food
Food saves me from living
it rubs the edges of my anger
it swipes the sadness from my mind
Crispy bread with creamy cheese
pomodoro pasta, velvety wine
and chocolate oozing caramel
has softened me into content

Time to wake up
Fight to be free
from the fixation with food
Face an army of feelings
Conquer them with calmness
You find peace beneath the pain
where a pauper is prince
ruling the kingdom of his life

Awake from your coma
enter a room of gratitude
stack first world
problems in a corner
Line up thoughts
to match your soul
Toss the coin of perception
Throw windows wide open
Let in the wonderful world
and embrace it all
dark and light
defeat and victory
Lean into your challenges
Let it scatter you to pieces
and rebuild yourself
with your soul as centerpiece
as your sage resides here
It is made from soft love
the sort that makes you smile

  3. Wow! The poem itself enchanted me awake. So lovely and deep. Sometimes to be numbed by luscious food is exactly what I want, and sometimes I deliberately eat beyond numb to rebuilding self. The photo and title together prepared me for this feast.

  6. Marja, it is lovely to see you, and I LOVE your poem. That is a wonderful journey, from pain into re-entering the world. I love the advice in your third stanza. When we live in gratitude, we have Enough - of everything. Lovely.

  8. Soft love! Who wouldn't want that. Just who is not in love with the food they eat?! A great poem Marja.

  9. I love how one gradually rebuilds from pieces. Food is a great healer. Also love the title & message of embracing all. Beautiful.

  11. So much to love in this, especially "it rubs the edges of my anger" and "stack first world /
problems in a corner / Line up thoughts / to match your soul"

  12. There is a light and dark side to our eating habits. Sometimes food is used to fill up the holes and is a substitute for living life fully, the way you've expressed it in this vibrant poem.

  14. We are stopped at Butger King, having used our BOGO COUPON. Mrs. had a ham, cheese, and egg croissant sandwich, tater tots, and coffee, I had the same except sausage instead of ham. Only one drink came with the coupon so we paid $1.59 for her small coffee, I complained that I had asked for a Senior Coffee (0.59)for her but they said this BK didn't sell.Senior drink

  15. I come from a culture where food is paramount...on est ce qu'on mange.....food is art. Gratitude indeed for our beautiful produce.
