Time
Time disappears into
nothingness,
like soft sand cupped in your hands,
gliding through your fingers,
reuniting with a vast mass
of a thousand grains.
Slow down—slow down.
Don’t let it all slip and swiftly flow.
Take time by the hand,
hold it tenderly.
Walk and see the world
with the eyes of a child.
Watch the clouds dance in the sky,
be in awe of a golden twilight.
Let the twinkle in an eye
make you smile.
Be fond of the fantail
fluttering around.
Let time take you with
her.
Be like a soft stream lapping.
Be the wild water—
bending seamlessly
around every stone.
Accept all that comes,
and let it flow, let it flow slow,
until you reach the river mouth
and become one with the ocean—
where thirst for time drops deep.
There is your harbour.
There is your home.
This is such a deeply philosophical write, Marja!❤️ I love the gentle tone and optimism especially; "Be the wild water
ReplyDeletebending seamlessly around obstacles/Accept all what comes and let it flow." Thank you so much for writing to the prompt❤️
Oh thanks Sanaa Nice to hear from a wonderful poet like you

DeleteSo much has been and is written about Time!
ReplyDeleteThe main idea is usually that Time flies, "gliding through your fingers", dissappears.
We should slow its flow, join it, enjoy the things it has to offer, until we become one with the ocean of Nature.
That's a very realistic poem!
Thanks Duta So great to see you Happy New Year
DeleteBeautiful, Marja! I especially enjoyed the lines:
ReplyDelete‘Take time by the hand
hold that hand tenderly
and walk to see the world
with the eyes of a child’.
Thanks Kim and a Happy New Year to you
DeleteYou’ve captured well the mercurial nature of time which some say is an illusion that binds us … where past, present and future flow together in that “soft stream” and “wild water”.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maria Great to see you and a Happy New Year
DeleteYour poem really flows - just like the river itself

DeleteHi Marja - lovely views from the South Island. While your poem is quite delightful ... and as so many have said - spiritual, serene - and yes your water was doing its thing ... but we can have a time to take a moment to remember our way through, as time keeps on running by - cheers and all the best for this coming year - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThanks and all the best to you too Hilary
DeleteOh it is a delight to read your poetry Marja! And the two photos are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThere are various theories as to why time seems to move briskly as we age. The one that makes the most sense is that when we’re young, we encounter a lot of “firsts,” such as our first sleepover, our first kiss, our first love, or getting our first car. Each “first” is fascinating because we pay attention to each unique detail of the event. The more detailed our recollections, the better we remember them. When we’ve lived similar experiences over and over again, time tends to go more quickly.
Look forward to spending some time with you soon my friend.
Namaste
Peggy xxxx
Thanks so much my friend Yes that is correct Your brain says seen that done that and fills in details from memory so you can skip the now
