You belong to this world

You belong to this world

You belong to this world
It gives itself to you
Morning delight

drops in day after day
The oak offers the fuel for breath
Free falling fresh water
flows into veins of vitality

You belong to this world
Play your flute to the tunes
of the music inside you
and perform to the world
Listen to the song of the souls
who want to be heard
and accompany them in harmony

You belong to this world
like a grain of sand on the beach
an ingredient in a recipe, irreplaceable
like a soft shadow spread by the light
like red or like blue merged
in the lavender sky above

Separate, but part of the whole

You belong to this world
accept its invitation
to walk an unwritten path
in all your vulnerable glory
To lay stone after stone,

shaped in love, which become
the relics of your co-creation

  2. I like the repetition of the title throughout the poem, an echo and a reminder. I particularly like ‘The oak offers the fuel for breath’; the simile, ‘like a shadow thrown by the light’; and the ‘invitation to walk an unwritten path’.

  3. Yes it is good belonging but so many of us see it differently and consider the world as something to use and profit from and if necessary to destroy if money can be made from that.

  5. Beautiful inspirational write of what is easy to achieve, sadly, if only we want to. I want to and do.

  8. So true. And the world--and us--would be so different if we accepted and understood this concept. We belong to the world and the world to us. Whatever we do to the world--love or hate--we will get back, eventually.

  9. Your poem is very relevant now, when we feel the coronavirus is robbing us of our life in this enchanted world with its "morning glories", "fresh water", trees, beaches, stones.
    That's a lovely poem! Thanks.

  11. "You belong to this world" indeed, with all its staggering beauty, splendid sunsets and reassuring sunrises. May we all learn to take better care of all it has to offer.

  17. Some days I wish the path were spelled out clearly, but I am content (most of the time) with the unwritten one, as long as I can keep walking and keep creating.

  19. "You belong to this world... to walk an unwritten path" - a reminder that each of us have a journey if we are willing to travel upon it. Well done.

  21. Hi Marja - particularly love the last verse ... you're so clever with your words and craft.

    You belong to this world
    accept its invitation
    to walk an unwritten path
    in all your vulnerable glory
    To lay stone after stone,
    shaped in love, which become
    the relics of your co-creation

I hope you're enjoying going to be able to get out and about ... take care and all the best - Hilary

  22. “To walk an unwritten path” is my favorite line. It’s nice to remember our journeys are not etched in stone and we write our own stories. I’ve been impressed with your leader in NZ and how she has handled this dreadful situation!
