You Belong
You belong to this world
it gives itself to you.
Morning delight
spills softly, day after day.
The oak offers the fuel for breath;
free-falling streams
feed the veins of vitality.
You belong to this world.
Play your flute to the tune
of the music inside you
perform it to the world.
Listen to the songs of souls
who long to be heard,
and join them in joy and sorrow.
You belong to this world
like a grain of sand on the beach,
An unseen spice in the sacred stew,
soft as a shadow stirred by the light,
like crimson and cobalt
blending in the bruised sky:
distinct, yet deeply entwined.
You
belong to this world.
Accept its invitation
to walk an unwritten path
in all your vulnerable glory.
Lay stone after stone,
So good!
ReplyDelete"You belong to this world like a grain of sand on the beach,".. I love this!!💝💝
ReplyDeleteI like the repetition of the title throughout the poem, an echo and a reminder. I particularly like ‘The oak offers the fuel for breath’; the simile, ‘like a shadow thrown by the light’; and the ‘invitation to walk an unwritten path’.
ReplyDeleteYes it is good belonging but so many of us see it differently and consider the world as something to use and profit from and if necessary to destroy if money can be made from that.
ReplyDeleteI definitely feel considerably more attached after reading this. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspirational write of what is easy to achieve, sadly, if only we want to. I want to and do.

This is so joyful. I love how he repetition feels like a reassurance and an invitation to truly take part in all the beauty of the world.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reminder for these times. Inspiring!
ReplyDeleteSo true. And the world--and us--would be so different if we accepted and understood this concept. We belong to the world and the world to us. Whatever we do to the world--love or hate--we will get back, eventually.
ReplyDeleteYour poem is very relevant now, when we feel the coronavirus is robbing us of our life in this enchanted world with its "morning glories", "fresh water", trees, beaches, stones.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely poem! Thanks.
Thank you for this beautiful, inspirational poem. It is like a prayer full of hope.
ReplyDelete"You belong to this world" indeed, with all its staggering beauty, splendid sunsets and reassuring sunrises. May we all learn to take better care of all it has to offer.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! "You belong to this world It gives itself to you" … so true … if only we mortals, could try a little harder to give something back.
ReplyDelete"An ingredient in a recipe, irreplaceable"
ReplyDeleteLuv this flavourful image of belonging
Thanks for dropping by my sumie Sunday today
Much💙love
I like this, Marja. For all the good reasons you write "I belong."
ReplyDelete..
The expression 'You mean the world to me 'takes on a new significance Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful to remember that the world too gives itself to us each day!
ReplyDeleteSome days I wish the path were spelled out clearly, but I am content (most of the time) with the unwritten one, as long as I can keep walking and keep creating.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful!
ReplyDeletemakes me appreciate this world more, the air i breathe, the sunlight, the clean waters...
This made my day!
ReplyDelete"You belong to this world... to walk an unwritten path" - a reminder that each of us have a journey if we are willing to travel upon it. Well done.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem Marja - love these words "Separate but part of the whole".
ReplyDeleteYes we are all in this together.
Keep shining my dear friend.

Hi Marja - particularly love the last verse ... you're so clever with your words and craft.
ReplyDeleteYou belong to this world
accept its invitation
to walk an unwritten path
in all your vulnerable glory
To lay stone after stone,
shaped in love, which become
the relics of your co-creation
I hope you're enjoying going to be able to get out and about ... take care and all the best - Hilary
“To walk an unwritten path” is my favorite line. It’s nice to remember our journeys are not etched in stone and we write our own stories. I’ve been impressed with your leader in NZ and how she has handled this dreadful situation!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sensitive poem. I like “You belong to this world …separate, but part of the world” so true.
