In the face of disaster

Rosemary from Poets and storytellers United invited us to write about ‘In the face of disaster…’

In the face of disaster

While destruction
sits at the same table
as devastation
dark and heavy
droplets of colour stick to it
pouches of light float in the stillness
There is a wave of compassion
People share and care
Someone receives a hug
big, soft and warm
It smothers the silence

  1. Love the hug killing the silence... need more of that all around!

  2. That's beautiful, Marja. And indeed, as true as the disasters is the fact that many individuals have been quick to help others.

  3. Marja, Scott has left a comment for you at the P&SU post, as he was unable to do so here.

  4. Yes! So beautifully written. In the face of disasters, caring for others often appears.

  5. Fit well with Rosemary's wave poem and, like her poem, brings relief.

  6. love does soothe - doesn't always win - but it comforts and helps things recover.

  7. I love this one. The way it reminds us that a bit of light is always there to be embraced. Even when all seems dark.

  8. Hi Marja - this was a delight to read ... devastation and disaster are just too awful situations to bear ... but a hug, and an acknowledgement of love to help ... can ease the pain - you do write so well - cheers Hilary

  9. Very nice, Marja. I'm glad you got to read it too. Devastation and Disaster are like a high school joke/riddle, would you rather drown in a bucket of XXX or a bucket of YYY. Hugs are always, or almost always, a Delight.
I am sorry to com so late, Last night I posted my spine poem I had finished by Wednesday but have been ailing since, intestine problems. At midnight Thursday I was on the bed in an examination room at our emergence hospital near and had asked Mrs. J for my smartphone. Magaly had opened up so I posted it on hers and then but soon gave the phone back to her. I am better now, but the cure is almost worse than the hurt.
Here is my big ((((HUG)))) for you and the poem's hugger.

  11. Care and compassion are what are the things that soften the impact of a disaster. Thanks for reminding us of that. :)

  12. I was just watching on the news neighbors climbing 2-story high snow drifts to come and bring some food to the people snowed under and without heat and power in California. This is kindness and compassion in action, just as in your thoughtful poem.

  13. This was refreshing. Kindness and compassion have to exist in this world.
