the prompt for What's Going On:
Show resistance through art, joy, trust, and love.
Wider than Walls
When you struggle,
remember life is wider than the walls around you.
This remembering is the start of resistance
Beauty speaks
in trees leaning toward the sun,
in the quiet pulse of music,
in a poem opening its hands,
in the soft goodness of people
who forget they shine.
Lean into the arms of this world
The walls around our sadness are not stone
they are only mist,
lifting
as soon as light arrives,
as soon as colour spills on the flowers again,
as soon as warmth touches your heart.
This world will always meet you with light.
Like a nourished plant,
you grow
and there is something in you
that the world cannot break
and that is how you became
the beautiful creation
you are now
All of it is love,
wearing a thousand quiet faces.
And you
even on the days you doubt it
you belong
to that world.
Your opening lines resonate so strongly. I remember attending a talk by a Buddhist monk, who said sometimes we look out through a small window, and see only grey clouds. But when we look through a larger window, there is blue sky we could not see through the smaller opening. I love "This remembering is the start of resistance." Yes. I love this poem so much, I would have to quote every beautiful line to tell you what I love about it. Wow, Marja. This is my favourite of all time poem of yours. It is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteaww thank you I am happy you like it
Delete"The walls around our sadness are not stone
ReplyDeletethey are only mist . . ." "Lean into the arms of this world." It seems that it is not only the world that is larger, but the person you're addressing is as well. ". . . love wearing a thousand quiet faces . . . " How wonderful!
Thank you I love how you saw into it that the world widens and the person widens too :)
DeleteThis is a stunning poem! I love these words:
ReplyDelete"Like a nourished plant,
you grow
and there is something in you
that the world cannot break....."
I want to keep that thought and say it over and over again! Thank you.
Aww that warms my heart
DeleteDear Marja, this is a lovely poem! I don't have the talent for writing or doing crafts, but I absolutely love to read and see the writings and creations of others who have this amazing talent. You do! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteaww thanks It is just love for it and lots of practice I think
Delete"as soon as warmth touches your heart.
ReplyDeleteThis world will always meet you with light."....I so agree. Everything is within. Once the heart is open and warm the world opens up with all its light. This poem is a beauty, Marja.
