But jokes aside, something good did come out of it. It is amazing to see how many put so many hours into helping others and our mayor Bob Parker is doing a tremendous job. But the best thing is that we as people were never closer together as now. Lots of people do jobs for others, take people in their homes, bring heaps of stuff to welfare centres were some have to stay. On the street and at work we talk to complete strangers, share stories, care for each other, try to sheer somebody up,. On my blog everybody hops in to show their care. It is so touching and so healing. So on the question Did something good out of it? The answer is Yes.
No matter where you are, human kindness always prevails when there is need. It warms my heart to hear that it's happening yet again.
We truly are a remarkable species, Marja. As individuals, we are capable of terrible acts of violence against each other but I believe that as a species, our first imperative is to do good for others and with others. It has not taken long for New Zealand to prove my belief. God bless you all. Annie
ReplyDeleteThere is always a reason behind everything that happens. It is good to know that strangers are coming together to help one another. I know it may take some time for things to settle, lets pray that all be well soon.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thank you for the beautiful postcard award. Check out my blog:

Times like these bring out the best and worst in people. It's great to see that most people are good. So glad you are doing OK. Keep us updated.
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely!! (See the poem on my blog - same sentiments). Take care - stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI think the way your community came together to help one another including pooling food and water is an encouragement to us all.
ReplyDeleteI wish that it didn't take a disaster to bring out our best!
ReplyDeleteoh yes, all those times i was gone, been thinking how are my co-bloggers? how's marja? this post explains well why no matter how long i've been away, i find my way back.
ReplyDeletehugs marja! :)
Hi Marja, how are things now? Hope things are really settling down. I remember things on a similar but larger scale happening in my hometown during the tsunami. In fact, I was with friends at a friends' beach house just the previous night and we left in the morning. It was a shock to us that the tsunami hit the same day from afternoon. It was truly miraculous. If you see our town now, you will not know that it was the place of massive destruction a few years back. I believe NZ will also recover quickly. I do hope so.
ReplyDeleteYeh it would be nice that people would always be like that
ReplyDeleteOh you were very lucky to just miss a tsunami that is even worse.
You don't escape easily from that one. Our lives are getting back on track but it is going to take years to rebuild everything. The infrastructure is quite bad and a lot of beautiful old buildings are destroyed. One street furthere from here a school is so badly damaged that they can't use it anymore They will have to build a new one and the children will have to stay for a while in another place. But again we are lucky nobody was hurt
Marja, this is so heart-warming to read of all the good people are doing for one another.
ReplyDeleteMarja, I can agree full Bob´s comment.Mayke´s painting is wonderful.Thank you for your interesting post.
