Hayly Westenra from Christchurch (her last name Dutch)sings amazing grace at the Christchurch memorial service
Be still
Be still, hear the hope rise
Our hearts bleed
Men lost so much
Men lost so much
but deep in our soul
a seed has been planted
nourished by the power of love
strengthened with iron
by the need to stand tall
From the rubble of our lives
a flower will appear
Freely giving its beauty
spreading a sweet scent
Velvety petals of dreams
Softening the fall of tears
spreading a sweet scent
Velvety petals of dreams
Softening the fall of tears
Be still, hear the hope rise

What beautiful words, Marja, and thank you for posting the song, which I'd missed hearing. It's so moving. My prayers and love are still very much with you all.

Namaste
Lovely poem, Marja. So touching.
ReplyDeleteMarja, what a stirring song. Amazing Grace is one of my favorites and I’ve heard its rendition in many different forms. This was sung particularly sweetly in memory of lives lost during a particularly horrible event. Your poem (and the flower) expresses so well the resilience of life and the drive not only to survive but thrive. Thanks for sharing these meaningful moments in your world.
ReplyDeleteA superb song to turn to in times of trial. Oh Marja, my heart just can't stop breaking for Japan.
ReplyDeleteJust excellent in all respects! Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteHer voice and your words brought tears to my eyes. How lovely and hopeful your words are. How lovely and powerful her voice!
