Driving through the South Island of New Zealand as we did on our last trip for 4 1/2 hours is very relaxing. Not a lot of traffic, no traffic lights, you don't need a map as there are not many roads and the scenery is beautiful. here a few impressions along the way
Who need shops The shoes grow here on the fence
A walk along the way to get some fresh air. We had a great view of the magnificent coastline you drive along and there is also some free camping as you can see
Just in time to spot the train who passes once a day.
Ther is a huge seal colony along this stretch of road and I never get board of them. We often stop as I am good at saying please.
The latest gossip is about me
He is close but in a safe distance and very busy scratching.
Very nice pictures, you give a great view of the country. Love the seals so close. What about the shoes, all found, dumped or art?
ReplyDeleteHi Marja, I enjoyed viewing your great photos of your recent journey. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGREAT shots as usual!!!!!!!!! What's with all the shoes? lol that is a FABULOUS photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. What a lovely country.
ReplyDeleteThe seal in the last photo almost seems to be posing amid its scratching. These are beautiful, glistening creatures that camouflage so well by the rocks. They must be wondering what you are up to, Marja, the way I am wondering about those shoes on the fence posts. The coastline is, indeed, spectacular! I would love to be on that train one day to see it in person. :)
ReplyDeleteSome great photos there! I wonder where that 'old shoe fence' is? Were you up by Kaikoura?
ReplyDeleteWe drove to Akaroa on Sunday - another glorious drive with stunning scenery!
Guys about the shoes. It is just for fun I think. One started it and others follow. There is somewhere else a fence with just bra's
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful shots.
ReplyDeleteyou do live in a beautiful country!
Must have been a wonderful trip!

Beautiful country, Marja - and you have captured it very well. Very interesting shots (including the 'hanging art').
ReplyDeleteLoved your scenes from Havelock too !
there is also some free camping as you can see
ReplyDeleteNow that would be a vacation of a lifetime.
What a fabulous trip. I love the seals - and the boots on the fence.
ReplyDeleteStoneweaver the shoes on the fence are between Havelock and Blenheim
ReplyDeleteIt sure is the most beautiful coastline and your photos of the seals are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove the shoe fence. And read that there's also a bra fence somewhere? LOL In the Netherlands that wouldn't be possible I think. Against the rules to leave your shoes or bra on someone's fence ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe seal photos are wonderful.
These photos are stunning Marja!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to take some of my own photos when I visit in February.
Love, love, love the South Island of New Zealand!

I'm struck by how much your coastline looks a lot like California's.
ReplyDeleteThe shoe fence makes me smile.
Mooie fotos, Marja!
