Light projection artist in Wellington

First of all my heart and prayers go out to the people of Paris and Beirut!

We visited the work of a light projection artist in Wellington at Massey University and adored these
beautiful colourful shapes projected on walls and boxes,

A detail of the artwork. Mr Peter Jackson or anyone who needs a light projection artist; This student has just finished Uni and is available!

This is the artist with her dad

We had a nice stroll around the city. We stayed at a back packer. The backpackers in NZ are great.
I love hanging out in the "lounch" and "kitchen" and chatting to people from all over the world. Many
backpackers are visited by older people. This was one for young people but they accepted us and we even made a friend :)

A very precious moment. We had dinner with the whole family which is rare as they all live spread over NZ. We had such a lovely time.

A snapshot from the gardens in Wellington.

and another one.

Of course we visited Te Papa, the national museum and art gallery in Wellington. We went to an amazing exhibition about the story of the soldiers who fought and died in WW1 in Gallipoli in Turkey.
Sir Peter Jackson helped create this amazing exhibition where giant sculptures, 2.4 times human size, told a story which gave us an insight in the experiences of the soldiers.

The giant sculptures took about 24000 hours to create and is a reminder of the nearly 2800 people who lost their lives. The exhibition will be open till 2018 so come and visit.

A well deserved rest in the big chair after walking through nearly all streets of Wellington.

  1. Die lichtprojecten tegenwoordig zijn zo leuk, binnenkort krijgen we ze in Amsterdam ook weer, vind het iedere keer weer magisch. De grote beelden zijn ontzettend goed gemaakt, niet van echt te onderscheiden.

  2. Hi Marja - yes I remembered Paris too - I couldn't write a normal post. The light exhibition looks just such fun ... while the National Museum with its exhibition re soldiers of the First World War and the Tripoli action certainly resonates and reminds - incredible creations. Wonderful to see your family photos - just so lovely ... and I'm so pleased you were able to meet up ... a very well deserved rest in your 'big chair' ... One day I'll get to NZ and Wellington ... cheers Hilary

  5. I am not a fan of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, while he was against slavery he still fought for a country whose chief purpose was to safe guard that barbaric intuition. But there is a quote of his that I remembered see those pictures you took of the sculptures of NZ soldiers. It goes like this : "It is well that war is so terrible – otherwise we should grow too fond of it."

  6. A great series of photos and the light projections are especially beautiful. I think the WW1 statues would be especially confronting at that huge size.

  12. What a great time for you two! I've see ads for the Te Papa display and hope to see it before it closes. We stay in backpackers, too, because they are usually more convenient than hotels and such.
