Autumn Leaves
Raindrops slide down
the autumn leaves
like heavenly tears,
glistening on golden relics
of flourishing times
some flaming reds
hold on a little longer
to limbs of trees
which look frail and
bonier every day, till
hold on a little longer
to limbs of trees
which look frail and
bonier every day, till
a breeze strips the arms
releasing leaves to drift,
twirl and swirl in their final
releasing leaves to drift,
twirl and swirl in their final
festival, landing softly to
create a carpet of confetti,
that for wind and humans alike
performs a last rustling refrain
before they let go of their glory
and be enmeshed with earth
to feed new life with wisdom
Falling leaves and their grace in the air, a pretty scene. The old life in leaves nurtures the new life and reborn again.

ReplyDeleteSo many poems were written, and so many songs composed on the theme of falling autumn leaves! Your poem is one of the more successful ones.I'm fascinated by how the wind in your poem makes those leaves "twirl and swirl" until they reach their final destination - the earth.
