Love letter from the afterlife

A poem for What's going on?
Prompt Love letter from the afterlife

Love letter from the afterlife

I wrap you in a hug, my love,
sent through the soft breath between worlds.
Here, it is as I imagined
beauty spilling over hidden valleys,
rain resting like silver stitches on petals,
light pooling in the quiet corners of forever.

You need not believe this place exists.
Only believe that my love
is not tucked away in some dusty attic
of the cosmos.
It moves through everything,
threads the air between your heartbeats,
pours over you like liquid lullabies.

You will still hear me
in the hush before sleep,
in the way certain words
feel like my voice in your ear.
My poems will keep speaking for me,
though you once swore you didn’t like poetry.
You listened anyway,
and oh, you were proud;
my truest audience.

You, who ran with hammer, wood, and nails,
building my wishes into the shape of reality,
just to see joy spill from my eyes.

So listen, in the sacred silence.
Keep creating and giving
I will still be near and whisper,
as I always did when you made
something beautiful:
“No way.”
By the way I have no wrinkles now,
only light 😉

  5. I love the subtle tenderness all through. I especially like the line how love threads the air between heartbeats of the beloved. A beautiful love letter from the afterlife.

  6. Very beautiful poem, Marja. I felt it . These words say so much:
"My poems will keep speaking for me,
though you once swore you didn’t like poetry.
    You listened anyway,
    and oh, you were proud;"
I think we all hope that after we are gone some special ones will read our poetry (perhaps that they did not read before) and HEAR us! Just lovely.

  7. Such a beautiful and delicate poem, Marja! I enjoyed not only your words but the links which sometimes made me smile, other times touched me. Words have a way of caressing our skin, but often images or music will go straight to our heart.

  9. "I wrap you in a hug, my love,
sent through the soft breath between worlds." Wow, a soft breath between. This is soothing and lovely as is the entire poem. Thank you for these images which enhance the idea of continued life and thereness.

  10. Hi Marja - love the colour of the rose ...and especially the last passing remark ... 'I have no wrinkles now' ... 'only light' - clever for us still here on this earth. Take care - Hilary

  11. Hi Marja, I need to save your poem and practice. Soooo many nice things fit my wife wonderfully. I'm a bit older than she.
    Save especially the verse beginning
    "You will still hear me
in the hush before sleep, . . ."

  12. Like the communications here, your side encouragingly sent for Hubby to keep courage and keep your love for him in mind. You said all so well and summing it perfectly. My favorite lines are
    "Keep creating and giving
I will still be near and whisper,
as I always did when you made
    something beautiful: . . . "
