a little poem starting out to be about a small beautiful fantail but ended somewhere else
Prompt for Poets and storytellers United Something small and beautiful
The fantails invitation
A path dappled with sunlight,
a branch above the pond.
A sudden chirp,
a cheerful song.
The fantail darts,
then tumbles,
settling on my shoulder
his fan an open invitation.
Yet my mind wanders,
searching for the golden notes
of the bellbird.
But no bellbird sings.
The earth then offers a shiny pebble.
I drop it in the pond
the splash never comes.
The wind whispers:
drop expectations,
not pebbles…
and the silence ripples outward.
Beautifully realised!
ReplyDeleteSerendipity is a wonderful thing. The things we do not actively pursue may suddenly decide to appear in front of us! Lovely poem!
ReplyDeleteI love the way this sings and soars a delightful capturing of a happy discovery - Jae
ReplyDeleteLovely poem, very musical. Sometimes we may not get what we expect but it is still a good thing. :)
ReplyDeleteA lovely bit of wisdom from a little pebble that has no need to make a splash!
ReplyDeleteIf we can hear your poem helps us appreciate that capability.
ReplyDeleteLove the progression of each stanza, little stories of their own. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of silence rippling outwards...
ReplyDeleteDrop expectations not pebbles is the crux of peace and contentment.
