The fantails invitation

a little poem starting out to be about a small beautiful fantail but ended somewhere else
Prompt for Poets and storytellers United Something small and beautiful

The fantails invitation

A path dappled with sunlight,
a branch above the pond.
A sudden chirp,
a cheerful song.

The fantail darts,
then tumbles,
settling on my shoulder
his fan an open invitation.

Yet my mind wanders,
searching for the golden notes
of the bellbird.
But no bellbird sings.

The earth then offers a shiny pebble.
I drop it in the pond
the splash never comes.

The wind whispers:
drop expectations,
not pebbles…

and the silence ripples outward.

  1. Serendipity is a wonderful thing. The things we do not actively pursue may suddenly decide to appear in front of us! Lovely poem!
