Eternal Ripples of becoming
The river of life winds like a silver path
through the valley of time
sometimes rushing,
sometimes meandering,
never still.
It gives and takes
it can run clear as glass
or shadowed and deep,
its skin flashing with iridescent sparkles
as starlight falls across its surface.
It brushes against the stones of knowledge,
resting like ancient runes beside the stream.
It listens to the skies that stretch far enough
to carry your whispers away on the wind.
You hear birds singing in a ribbon of lyrics.
When your translucent soul catches the light,
your river carves truth into the land
truth too wide for the riverbanks to contain,
yet still they are shaped by it.
The river does not carry you.
It flows through you.
Your thoughts and actions stir the water into ripples.
If you love, touch a heart, speak for the voiceless
the ripples gather into a current
strong enough to sweep away the walls of indifference
And when your river at last returns to the ocean,
you will know:
you have been deliciously alive.
...ripples of life, I like that and today I learns about ancient runes.
ReplyDeleteA lovely image of the river and its connection to the human experience. You have captured it well.
ReplyDeleteI so relate to this poem, remembering those 'rushing' and 'meandering' times. Life's silver path with sparkles of light in the dark is full of hope. A beautiful poem of being and becoming. My favorite lines : "When your translucent soul catches the light, / your river carves truth into the land..." How wonderful is that!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful poem, Marja, and your river metaphor works so well with the theme and with your well-penned ideas. I very much enjoyed reading it.
