Written to the prompt Silence for the local poetry club
Not all sound comes from noise.
Sometimes the loudest truths live in the quiet between words.
Listen closely as silence has stories to tell
The sound of silence
Silence
an underrated sound
in a world of noise.
A tool to turn chaos
into soft connection,
where energy carves
the air itself
and settles into fibres.
An eloquent answer
when words aren’t valued.
Dust of empty words
blurs the vision.
Silence clears the sky,
its hush
shocks the thunder.
The pause
where truth cuts through
the noise and motion,
the key to mental clarity,
the entrance
to wisdom’s chambers.
A space
where tension simmers
between notes.
Where emotion gathers
its breath
and bursts into the echo
of melody.
Dear Marja, this is beautiful. I have never liked a lot of noise or loud sounds. For example, I don't go to concerts, sporting events or parades because I find it too loud and chaotic.
ReplyDeleteThis really touched me, thank you ๐ ๐ ❤️ so much for sharing.
I really appreciate your kind words! ❤️ It makes me happy to know the quiet in my poem connected with you.
DeleteSilence is a precious state of being, seriously undervalued in modern society. I cherish it.
ReplyDelete...silence is highly underrated.
ReplyDeleteWisdom imaginatively expressed, Marja. Silence can be an eloquent answer and noises vanquished while the chatter inside one's head are an even more challenging matter. :)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful!

The power of silence eloquently expressed - very nice poem that makes one to start thinking, relating, agreeing....
ReplyDeleteTrue silence... It's hard to find in our world. I can only remember one single moment when I experienced silence so intensely and completely. It was years ago on a foggy day on a mountain in Gastein, when I (already a young adult) was skiing with my parents. I think the three of us were the only ones on the mountain, and the fog muffled all sounds. I had reached the top after the lift ride, and my parents weren't with me yet. I stood there and "heard" the silence, and it was one of the most wonderful, most conscious feelings I've ever had.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, on our recent trip, I experienced a moment that reminded me of that time—even though the silence wasn't quite as absolute... and the moment was very, very brief...
Your poem - once again - perfectly captures the mood.
All the best, dear Marja

Hi Marja - the third stanza rings particularly true in today's world. Such a well written poem - excellent - cheers and I'm reading on a day when so many lie forever silent. Hilary
