Ritual of the returning people
Dream new songs
risen from the chorus of many.
Draw in the sweetness,
of collaboration
each breath a mingling
of gifted waters.
For this is the rite
of the water bearers
gathering their vessels
to fill a mighty sea.
So open.
Break the shell
that kept you solitary.
Return to the weaving,
threads rejoining threads
the ancient tapestry
of the people.
Here we carve our lines
into the one great story.
Here we transmute
our offerings
into a golden chain,
hand to hand,
remembering the oneness
we never truly left.
Absolutely beautiful! Would that this country could rid itself of its divisiveness...work together recognizing no "others" rather that we are all in the family of humanity and thus should be taking care of each other.
ReplyDeleteI am especially smitten with these lines:
"Break the shell
that kept you solitary.
Return to the weaving,
threads rejoining threads
the ancient tapestry
of the people."

How wonderful it would be if this country could rid itself of divisiveness and begin to understand we are all members of one family, humanity. If we could learn to share the wealth and care for our fellow human beings who need help.
Thank you for posting!
This floats beautifully - like taking a deep breath or hearing the sounds of waves coming in and out to shore - Jae
ReplyDeleteThat's absolutely magnificent, Marja!
ReplyDeleteWonderful... we need to transform every country a bit like this... compassion with lfe is always the right path
ReplyDeleteLovely verse; lovely sentiments. Will we ever get back to “the oneness we never truly left?”
ReplyDeleteA dream-like vision--so beautiful. A hope or a wish--to dream these new songs and to remember the oneness.
ReplyDeleteDream new songs, draw in sweetness, break the shell, carve our lines ~ the is the recipe for healing, which we desperately need. A gorgeous poem, Marja.
ReplyDeletethis poem is so evocative - a tremendous write with the notion of water as the unifier
ReplyDelete"the ancient tapestry of the people." - far more reliable than the King's new clothes.
ReplyDeleteThe majority's plea. Great write, Marja. 👏
ReplyDeleteLove this especially;
ReplyDelete"So open.
Break the shell
that kept you solitary.
Return to the weaving,
threads rejoining threads
the ancient tapestry
of the people."
The poem is a call for unification breaking all superfluous bondages and barriers.
ReplyDeletea beautiful positive poem.. good to see you comeback from the family time break
ReplyDeleteA unique poem. I love poetry.
ReplyDeleteBest regards, and I invite you to view my new painting :)
A wonderful poem of positivity, Marja, and I like the idea of the unifying force of water, but I worry that water will be a source of conflict as climate change bites deeper...
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Marja.
ReplyDelete"The returning people" makes me think of Somali-Americans, all of whom are being made top priority for deportation even though only some of them have broken our laws. The childish protests of people yelling at federal agents and trying to block them with cars are not noticeably helping the Somalis. I read this poem and pray that Ilhan Omar, and others who sympathize with the Somalis, can help them make a good transition back to their country of origin (where they are seen as being in less danger than they were years ago). Help them take back the "water" they need as they weave and carve and forge.
ReplyDelete""Break the shell
ReplyDeletethat kept you solitary.

of the people."
It feels like a plea for unity, badly needed.
