Zeitgeist

Poets and storytellers united

Rosemary asked what you would say in order to bear witness to these times we are living in, and how it feels to be living in them.

Zeitgeist

The spirit of this time is painted black
Dark smudges of increasing prices
housing crises, war and wear and
tear of Covid clouding our eyes
creating heavy hearts and headedness
Communities dispersing into
a thousand flittering parts
of separated stardust
lost and lonely

The spirit of this time is painted white
There are the many moments of
reflection and connection
There is a space between me and you
to be filled with smiles
soft touches, a haven of hope
Here communities are created like
a milky way filled with stars
luminous and loved

  1. Very true Marja, there are indeed both of these to be seen.

  2. Sadly, the black paint is dominant. The moon in the picture gives us Hope to a better universe.

  3. A timely reminder that there's still good to be found in this damaged world of ours. Well done, Marja.

  4. Your words express that within the dark there is also light. Oddly enough, it is often in the most difficult of times that people step up and connections are made to ease the suffering.

  5. Well done Marja - an excellent poem on life as we experience it now ... so many challenges, yet there's always a light along the way. Cheers Hilary

  6. Important to speak of both as you have done.. on one hand the near-dystopia and on the other the little things from which we can still find the measure of joy and humanity.

  7. Sometimes it is hard to find the good but it is there.

  8. The importance of community has made so starkly clear in these crazy times. I know I've leaned on my circle and had others lean on me too when needed.

  9. Love how you used color to illustrate / emphasize your poetic message ... wise and wonderful.

  10. "a space between me and you
    to be filled with smiles
soft touches, a haven of hope"

Such a beautiful and empowering truth. Yes, the world has become a dystopian horror, but... we can still find lovely things about it.

  11. These times test us. As others have said this is when the light shines through even if it is only in glimmers

  13. Positivity all the way, regardless of how dark. I’m right there in the spirit of white. :-)

  14. Meh. TV news has always inclined to the dark. The real world, on a day like this, is bright.

  15. In these times of uncertainty and crisis, there are still many moments of decency and hope. Of communities coming together.
I loved how you said communities are created like a milky way filled with stars. :)

  17. If you can keep finding the good, you will get through these times. I stopped watching the news the day after the horror in Texas.
I really feel better taking a break from it.
