Whirl through wonder

Curling in my sleeping bag,
I gaze at a swirling starlit sky
in the darkest depths of night.
At Lake Tekapo,
lights pinned high,
whirl through wonder,
tracing the Milky Way’s endless maze,
spilling a neural network
of celestial beauty.
Mind and matter mending.

  6. Beautifully done. Stargazing is one of life’s greatest pleasures, opening the mind in so many ways, doors of pleasure swinging ajar. The experience is only confined by your mind. Give it free rein and you will be entranced.

  10. Beautifully composed —
when we were growing up, the Milky Way was a sight we could actually see. Now, it feels like our sky needs a cataract removed.

  12. We are fortunate here in NZ to have clear skies to see the Milky Way. No pollution.

  13. Marja, I feel such calm in this piece — “whirl through wonder” seems to hold both awe and quiet restoration. It makes me wish you’d write more poems like this; your way of capturing stillness in motion always draws me in.

    Much love,
